Who we are
McKnight’s Painting Services is a painting and decorating business based in Ballyclare, Northern Ireland. For UK data protection purposes, McKnight’s Painting Services is the controller of personal information collected for quotations, customer work and business administration.
Privacy enquiries can be made by calling 07468 434972 or through the same contact method you used to request a quotation.
Information we collect
Depending on how you contact us and the work requested, we may collect:
- your name, telephone number and other contact details;
- your address, postcode and information needed to visit the property;
- project descriptions, measurements, colour or finish preferences and photographs you provide;
- messages, quotation details, appointment notes and customer-service records;
- invoice, payment and accounting information; and
- limited technical information supplied by the website host, where applicable, such as security logs.
Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely needed for the work.
How we use personal information
- to respond to enquiries and arrange property visits;
- to prepare quotations and plan, carry out and complete decorating work;
- to communicate about access, timing, materials, variations and payment;
- to maintain invoices, accounts and other records required for tax or legal purposes;
- to handle questions, complaints, insurance matters or legal claims;
- to protect the security of the business and website; and
- to use project photographs for marketing only where appropriate permission has been obtained.
Our lawful bases
We use personal information only where a lawful basis applies. The main bases are:
- Contract: to take steps at your request before entering a contract and to perform the agreed work.
- Legal obligation: to keep tax, accounting and legally required records.
- Legitimate interests: to operate the business, respond to customers, secure records and manage or defend claims, where those interests do not override your rights.
- Consent: where permission is requested for optional marketing, promotional photographs or another specific purpose. Consent may be withdrawn.
How long we keep information
Information is kept only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected. As a general guide:
- enquiries that do not proceed may normally be kept for up to 24 months;
- quotations, job, invoice and payment records may normally be kept for up to six years, or longer where tax law, an active dispute or another legal requirement applies;
- marketing contact details are kept until consent is withdrawn or the information is no longer needed; and
- project photographs are reviewed periodically and deleted when no longer required.
Property photographs
Photographs may be taken or supplied to assess, quote for and record the work. Images will not intentionally identify occupants. Separate permission will be requested before identifiable property photographs are used for a portfolio, website or social media where consent is the appropriate basis.
How we protect information
Reasonable organisational and technical measures are used to protect information from accidental loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure. Access is limited to people who need the information for legitimate business purposes. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to:
- be informed about how your information is used;
- request access to your personal information;
- ask for inaccurate or incomplete information to be corrected;
- ask for information to be erased or its use restricted;
- object to certain uses, including direct marketing;
- receive certain information in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
These rights are not absolute and legal record-keeping requirements may still apply. We may need to confirm your identity before completing a request.
Questions and complaints
Please contact McKnight’s Painting Services first so there is an opportunity to address your concern. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection. Visit ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint for current contact options.
